How it works
Three simple steps
- 1
Tell us about you
Share the names and addresses you have used over the years.
- 2
We show you where to search
We point you to the places where money in your name may be listed.
- 3
You claim it directly
You file your claim with the organization that holds the money. Claims made through official state programs are free.
Common sources
Where missing money usually comes from
Utility deposits
Power, gas or water companies may still hold a deposit you paid when you moved in.
Closed bank accounts
When an account sits unused for a long time, the balance is often sent to the state.
Insurance refunds
A policy that ended early can leave a refund that was mailed to an old address.
Settlements
Some people are owed a share of a court settlement and never heard about it.
Our promise
How we work with you
- We never ask for your online banking password.
- We never charge a percentage of what you recover.
- We point you to official sources.
Why it happens
Why money goes unclaimed
Most unclaimed money is small, and it is spread across many different places. No single company has the full picture.
People move
A refund or final payment gets mailed to an old address and comes back. After a while, the company stops trying to reach you.
Names change
A married name, a maiden name or a missing middle initial can mean your money is listed under a name you do not search for.
Nobody tells you
Companies are not required to track you down for a small amount. Many people never find out the money exists.

Common questions
Questions people ask us
Are you a government agency?
No. Missing Funds Official is a private company. We are not connected to any government office or state unclaimed property program.
Do you hold or send money?
No. Money that is owed to you is held by the organization that owes it, such as a state program, a utility, a bank or an insurer. When you claim it, they pay you directly.
Do you take a cut of what I recover?
No. We never charge a percentage of anything you recover.
How long does a claim take?
Each organization sets its own timeline. Many claims are paid within a few weeks of being filed, and some take longer.
What do I need to get started?
A list of the names you have used, the places you have lived, and a photo ID. Some claims also ask for an old account number or a past utility bill.
